![]() The best candidates will be images of landscapes, in which both sides left and right are quite similar (so that when the distortion occurs they mostly match). The first step is an easy one: choose the image you want to turn into a tiny planet. I use Photoshop CC to create my tiny planets but I suspect you will be able to use other software too, even my Nexus 5 phone can create them (called panospheres)! Today I am going to teach you how to make a tiny planet, and some tips and tricks that I find really useful in the process. ![]() I have become quite obsessed with tiny planets recently, I think they look super funky! Handy Photo has done a good job of blending the left and right edges of the picture to make a circular image (here’s a tip: straighten the photo first so that the horizon is at the same height at both sides), and I’ve got a striking picture that only took a few moments to do.Would you like to learn the secret art of making tiny planets? They are magical and enchanting. 05 The finished pictureĪnd here’s the result! I think this is actually pretty good. And because I’ve got Photo Stream set up on my iPhone and in Aperture on my Mac, it will automatically appear in my Aperture library. I’m going to save the finished picture back to my iPhone’s photo ‘gallery’ (or ‘Camera Roll’, to use the correct iPhone term). ![]() I want that big lone tree nearer the top of the ‘planet’, so I click the settings icon in the bottom left corner of the screen, tap the rotation gadget and turn the planet to the angle I want. In fact there’s only one more thing I need to do. There’s nothing for you to do except tap the button – your ‘Tiny Planet’ is generated in an instant. That’s what Handy Photo calls them, anyway, which is probably a bit more informative than ‘Polar Panoramas’, which really describes the process as you’d apply it in Photoshop. You then spin the arc of buttons to find the one you want – it’s the Filters button I want, second from the top. You can open any picture from your photo library in Handy Photo, and to view the options you tap the ‘hand’ icon top right. You shouldn’t have to send your images to your phone to get exciting image effects, but that’s what I’ve started doing. This polar panorama was created using Handy Photo, which is only one of many inventive and exciting mobile apps. Smart device apps are cheap, simple and often jaw-droppingly effective. In my opinion, desktop app developers need to do a real reality check. ![]() My point is that I’ve got a a £1.49 app running on a mobile phone doing something that Photoshop can’t – or at least not with such spellbinding simplicity. I could create a polar panorama from any of the shots in my photo library taken on one of my regular D-SLR cameras. I can access my the photo library on my Mac on my iPhone because I use Photo Stream and sync my photo library via iTunes. I didn’t have to use a picture shot on my iPhone, though. In fact I took the original picture my iPhone, too, and here it is. ![]() The polar panorama I’ve created here, though, was produced in about thirty seconds from a single everyday photograph using a £1.49 app on my iPhone. Usually, you create them by first shooting a 360-degree panorama as a sequence of overlapping shots and then combining them using Photoshop or some dedicated panoramic stitching software. Polar panoramas are ordinary landscapes turned into miniature spherical planets. ![]()

If the original width is smaller than the resized width, tell FileMaker to make the resized image the same width as the original. Using these two functions will give you the original image's width and height. All you need is to make use of a couple new functions in 12: GetWidth( ) and GetHeight( ) In the event that FileMaker removes this safeguard, you can add a bit more code to the original function call above to ensure your resizing is future proof and will never pixelate an image. One of the nice latent features of the GetThumbnail( ) function is that it will automatically prevent you from pixelating the new resized image: you can only shrink an image, not expand it. If you want to keep the original, then use 2 fields, one for the original and one for the smaller image. This also ensures the database doesn't keep a copy of the original, which would defeat the purpose of resizing in the first place: To ensure the database maintains a healthy diet of lean-and-mean images and doesn't expand its waistline too much over time. The auto-enter will replace the original image with the resized version automatically, eliminating the need to script the resizing. If the original image is 400x500 and you want to resize it down to 200x400, FileMaker will return a thumbnail of 200x250, which both fits into the box and retains the original 4:5 aspect ratio.īy far the easiest and most robust way to implement reducing the size of an image is to do it inside an auto-enter calculation of the container field itself. The width and height parameters tell FileMaker what box the resized image should proportionally fit into. One thing to keep in mind is that FileMaker won't distort the resized image: it'll always maintain the proportions of the original image. This is the height to shrink (or enlarge) the image to. This is the width to shrink (or enlarge) the image to. This is the container that contains the image you want to resize. There are three parameters to pass the function: As long as you know the width and height that you want to shrink an image down to, this function is essentially all you need to get the job done. There's one main function that does the heavy lifting: GetThumbnail( ). Let's take a look at how this resizing works in FileMaker 12. ![]() With the ability to natively resize images on any platform, you may want to optimize the images in all your FileMaker applications. It’s important to note that shortening a stiletto nail will cause it to lose structure and shape, says Baker. ![]() Then, file the nail up and over from the sidewall to the center on both sides to perfect the shape. After building the nail, support the length of the enhancement with your other hand and file the sidewalls straight out from the nail. Form placement and good product application is key to achieving this look. “They take some time to adjust to and are very high maintenance and prone to breakage,” says Barbi. Stiletto nails make a statement, but they come at a price. If working on enhancements, continue shaping the nail by holding the file at a 45-degree angle to the free edge to achieve the right profile. Alternate between sides as you refine the shape to ensure that the rounded shape remains balanced and isn’t too narrow. Begin by filing the sidewalls from corner to center, gradually curving the file to round the tip. To create a squoval shape, start with a square nail and slightly round the corners.Īrguably the most universally flattering nail shape, an oval nail gives fingers the illusion of thinness and length, says Vicki Ornellas, global educator for ibd. “It’s also a great shape for clients who normally wear square nails and want to slowly transition to oval,” she says. Like their square counterparts, squoval nails have strength in structure, but with the added benefit of no sharp corners, which tend to crack or chip, says Barbi. The hyponychium is rarely even and the tips could be slanted if you use the quick to guide you. Always check your progress by holding the client’s hand upright in front of you. If going square with natural nails, focus on keeping the file in the same position as you lift it from the nail after each stroke to file again in the same direction. This shape is a little easier to accomplish on an enhancement because the file can remain in contact with the tip as you move back and forth just be sure not to round the tip as you blend the profile of the product. To create a square nail, file the sidewalls straight out from the nail bed, then turn the file perpendicular to the tip and file the free edge straight across. Strong sidewalls and a deeper C-curve make square-shape enhancements a structurally sound choice, says Baker. Here, expert advice for achieving clients’ most-requested nail shapes: While the same basic methods are used to achieve most nail shapes, specific shapes require slight tweaks in technique. “Run your fingertip over the nail to feel for bumps.” And don’t rely solely on sight, says Barbi. As you file, constantly check your work by viewing the nail from all directions. Artificial nails can be filed in any direction, but Baker prefers short strokes, filing from side to center to achieve a nice, smooth surface and an even barrel shape. When filing natural nails, work in a single direction from the outside edge to the center of the nail to help prevent splitting. For techs that can be a little heavy-handed when taking down product, Elsa Barbi, brand ambassador for OPI, recommends choosing a file with some flexibility these files are rigid enough to shape the nail, but will bend with extra pressure, reducing friction on the nail bed and saving skin from cuts. Allie Baker, global brand ambassador for EzFlow, likes curved files for working around the cuticle area and straight edges for shaping tips and perfecting contours. Which file you reach for is partly a matter of personal preference. Lower grit numbers, such as 80, are very coarse and should only be used on artificial nails, while higher numbers (180 and up), are suitable for natural nail shaping and buffing. Commonly made with a wood, foam or plastic core, all files are lined with an abrasive surface called grit. The entry-level model now starts at $999, and it’s available to the education market for just $899. Minor enhancements include True Tone technology for more natural images on the 13-inch Retina display, “wide stereo sound” for the speakers, and support for Bluetooth 5.0.Īs welcome as all these changes are, the best news is that Apple simultaneously dropped the MacBook Air’s price. I don't remember the specifics, but I believe issues with Bluetooth devices is a known thing and is meant to be addressed in an upcoming update. I’m fairly positive this keyboard issue is a bug and the cursor slowness issue can be rectified by adding a track speed to the options. Nonetheless, the cursor should have a slider to make it faster and the Magic Keyboard needs to be usable outside of chat. I used a Magic Track Pad 2, while still slow, was a little more bearable since I had more space to move my finger. The cursor slowness seems to be better if you have a mouse since your range of motion is higher versus the trackpad on the keyboard. In fact, one of the review sites say it’s not compatible with the Magic Keyboard but is with Bluetooth keyboards.
